How licensing works
For labs: from a request or a catalogue listing to a signed licence and a delivered dataset.
There are two ways in: license a dataset that's already in the catalogue, or post a request and have Quarry source it. Both end the same way, with a signed licence and a delivery you can verify.
From the catalogue
Every licensable dataset has a deal sheet with a stable ID (for example QD-7K2P). Its status moves along one rail:
- ListedOn the catalogue with its deal sheet.
- Sample readyA de-identified sample is prepared and approved by the owner.
- Under NDAA lab accepted the sample NDA and is evaluating.
- LicensedA licence is signed; delivery follows.
- Browse. Filter by vertical, data type, language, domain, geography, size and years covered.
- Request a sample. Accept the click-through sample NDA, and an expiring download link follows once your account is verified.
- License. Choose exclusive or non-exclusive, term, territory and permitted use. Commercials are on the deal sheet as a price band or "on request".
- Receive. Delivery to your storage with the datasheet, manifest and de-identification report.
By request
When it isn't in the catalogue, scope it with us:
- 01ScopeWe write the spec with your research team: modality, volume, quality bar, exclusivity.
- 02SourceWe find the owners who hold it and negotiate the licence.
- 03ClearRights, consent and PII checks; deduplication against the public web; quality scoring.
- 04DeliverTo your storage, with a datasheet and a per-record provenance manifest.
With your consent, an anonymised version of the request goes on the demand board. Your lab's name is never shown and volumes are rounded.
What you sign
| Agreement | When | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Sample NDA | Before a sample | Confidentiality, use only to evaluate, deletion after evaluation, no contact with the owner outside Quarry |
| Data licensing terms | Before delivery | Licence grant, permitted use, no redistribution, no re-identification or linkage, deletion duties |
| Data Processing Addendum | Where personal data could be in scope | Roles, security measures, breach notice, deletion |
